FAQs

Some frequently asked questions about BSC York.

What is the nationality mix in the school?

We get a variety of students from all over the world, speaking a variety of languages. We will always mix students as much as we can according to their level. In the past year we have had students from Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Chile, Turkey, China, Japan, Thailand, Brazil, Colombia, France and more!

Where can I buy lunch?

There are lots of cafes, restaurants, fast-food places and bakeries near the school. The Shambles Market is a very popular choice for street food from around the world and only 3 minutes away. You’re also welcome to bring your lunch back to the school and eat in one of our lounges, the courtyard in the squares and parks nearby.

What are the accommodation options?

We offer two types of accommodation. We have Foss Studios, our student residence featuring en-suite, studio-style rooms with a private kitchen and living area; and Homestay, where you can live with a local family in York. Foss Studios is about a 15-minute walk and the host families are usually 30-45 minutes by bus, as York is an old city and most people do not live in the city centre. Most of our hosts live in the suburbs but we can help you with buses and directions.

How much do the social programme activities cost?

All the activities from Monday – Thursday are FREE! However, the activities that we suggest for Friday, Saturday and Sunday usually have a cost. But you might find that you can use your ID card to get a student discount on some activities.
