Homestay places you in a twin or private room in a local family’s home in York. It’s a popular choice for students who want a quieter, more personal experience and the chance to practise English in everyday conversation outside the classroom.

These describe how much food is included in your homestay price. Self catering means room only — you use the host’s kitchen to prepare your own meals. Bed and breakfast includes your room and a continental breakfast each morning. Half board adds an evening meal. Full board includes breakfast, an evening meal, and a packed lunch — everything is covered.

You can choose from self catering, bed and breakfast, half board, or full board. Twin rooms are available if you are travelling with another student. A private bathroom can be added for £35 per week.

Yes — there is a one-off homestay finding fee of £45. A summer supplement of £20 per week applies from 14 June to 6 September. A Christmas supplement of £40 per week applies from 24 December to 2 January. Students under 18 pay an additional £30 per week. A special diet supplement of £25 per week applies for dietary requirements such as gluten-free, vegan, halal, or nut-free.
