Homestay places you in a twin or private room in a local family’s home in York. It’s a popular choice for students who want a quieter, more personal experience and the chance to practise English in everyday conversation outside the classroom.

These describe how much food is included in your homestay price. Self catering means room only — you use the host’s kitchen to prepare your own meals. Bed and breakfast includes your room and a continental breakfast each morning. Half board adds an evening meal. Full board includes breakfast, an evening meal, and a packed lunch — everything is covered.

You can choose from self catering, bed and breakfast, half board, or full board. Twin rooms are available if you are travelling with another student. A private bathroom can be added for £35 per week.

Homestay properties are typically 30 to 60 minutes from BSC York by public transport. Exact travel times depend on the specific property allocated to you.

Yes — there is a one-off homestay finding fee of £45. A summer supplement of £20 per week applies from 13 June to 4 September. A Christmas supplement of £40 per week applies from 24 December to 2 January. Students under 18 pay an additional £30 per week. A special diet supplement of £25 per week applies for dietary requirements such as gluten-free, vegan, halal, or nut-free.

The student residence is available from age 18. Homestay is available from age 16.

Arrivals after 22:00 may be subject to a late arrival fee. Please check at the time of booking.

Yes. Accommodation cannot be confirmed until your visa has been granted. Please notify us at least two weeks before arrival. We cannot guarantee your first choice of accommodation if confirmed late.

All students aged 14 and over travel independently from host families to the school using public transport. Your host family will show you how to get to the nearest tube or bus stop and show you the route.  Independent travel provides a great opportunity to build confidence and the whole language learning experience.
