Straits Meadow is a 10-minute walk from Edinburgh’s city centre, close to Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat, with Edinburgh Waverley train station nearby.

It’s a 27-minute bus ride from Straits Meadow to BSC Edinburgh, which is based in the city’s historic New Town.

All bills, high-speed WiFi (up to 250Mbps), and contents insurance are included. Your ensuite bedroom comes furnished with bed and storage and bed linen (towels are not included), and you’ll have access to a shared kitchen and lounge.

Yes — every room at Straits Meadow is a private ensuite bedroom within a shared flat, so you have your own bathroom while sharing the kitchen and lounge with flatmates.

Yes — for a more traditional experience, homestay accommodation is arranged by a trusted partner. You’ll have a private room in a family home with shared bathroom and living spaces, typically 30–60 minutes from BSC Edinburgh, with WiFi, bed linen and towels included.

These describe how much food is included in your homestay price. Self catering means room only — you use the host’s kitchen to prepare your own meals. Bed and breakfast includes your room and a continental breakfast each morning. Half board adds an evening meal on top. Full board includes breakfast, an evening meal, and a packed lunch — everything is covered.

Homestay properties are typically 30 to 50 minutes from BSC Edinburgh by public transport, depending on the specific property allocated to you.

Yes — there is a one-off homestay finding fee of £45. A summer supplement of £20 per week applies from 13 June to 4 September. A Christmas supplement of £40 per week applies from 24 December to 2 January. Students under 18 pay an additional £30 per week. A special diet supplement of £25 per week applies for dietary requirements such as gluten-free, vegan, halal, or nut-free.

All students aged 14 and over travel independently from host families to the school using public transport. Your host family will show you how to get to the nearest tube or bus stop and show you the route.  Independent travel provides a great opportunity to build confidence and the whole language learning experience.

The student residence is available from age 18. Homestay is available from age 16.

Yes. Accommodation cannot be confirmed until your visa has been granted. Please notify us at least two weeks before arrival. We cannot guarantee your first choice of accommodation if confirmed late.
