Our ‘English Focus’ courses are a perfect choice for anyone with a desire to improve their English language for a specific career or area of interest. In the mornings you will join our pioneering English Language Training programme, then in the afternoons you will benefit from 4 one to one lessons every week with one of our expert teachers.
In these private lessons you will focus on your particular language needs using high quality and relevant published material, examine authentic documents related to your field and, when possible, students will have the opportunity to go on industry visits or learn directly from industry expert guest speakers.
Whatever your specialism, you will finish your course feeling more confident in using the language you need to flourish in your work or hobby.

What's in the course?
Speaking and Listening classes focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as climate action and reduced inequalities. Each week includes conversations about one or two of these goals, allowing students to practise their English in a real-world context.
The afternoon lessons of our intensive courses focus on Skills for Career & Academic Success. Gain the future ready skills required by universities and employers around the world.
Elective afternoon lessons
Those studying our intensive and semi-intensive programmes will benefit from a variety of options in the afternoon depending on their goals and preferences. Our electives (which vary across BSC locations – please contact us for more information) include:
Language Workshop
Covering areas such as vocabulary, grammar, writing, pronunciation and more, according to the needs of the class.
Immerse and Explore
Research and prepare for an immersive lesson to a local area of interest and get to know your college city from a different perspective. Boost your confidence in a fun and interesting way, engaging with native speakers in authentic situations, and applying your newly acquired language skills in life outside the classroom.
English Skills for AI
With support from your teacher and classmates, you will use AI tools to produce engaging, and authentic materials while completing a range of real world work and study tasks. This will not only improve your English language skills, but develop your AI skills, equipping you to succeed in the modern world. (Only available at BSC Brighton, York and Manchester).
Foundation Skills for IELTS – those who are not at the level to join our morning IELTS preparation course are able to develop skills and strategies to achieve exam success alongside their English Language Training.
